In accordance with the provisions of Chapter 55, Code of Iowa, university employees may request a leave without pay to run for elective office.
The Iowa Code prohibits employees who are candidates for elective office from campaigning while on duty as an employee. With this in mind, university employees may request a leave without pay to run for elective office. The leave may extend from up to thirty days prior to the primary or general election to one day after the election.
