Introduction

This policy protects the health of Iowa State University personnel, students and guests, by minimizing the potential for the accidental ingestion of hazardous materials.

Hazardous materials include hazardous chemicals, biological materials and radiological materials.

Policy Statement

Any activity that may result in the accidental ingestion of hazardous materials is prohibited; these include eating, drinking, smoking, vaping, chewing tobacco, applying cosmetics, or pipetting or siphoning by mouth.

Food items may not be stored in areas where hazardous materials are present.

Food items not intended for human consumption must be labeled "Not for human consumption".

This policy applies to laboratories, shops, chemical storage areas and other spaces containing hazardous materials.
